Spiritual Gym for the Soul

A powerful reflection written by Sister Rita from the recent Ramadan Resurrection event in B.C.

The Qu’ran is like a roadmap for life, showing us the way and reminding us to trust in Allah.  When we fast, it’s like going to a spiritual gym, helping us become more aware of ourselves.

Reflecting on its teachings equips us with what we need for our soul, making us stronger inside. Additionally, listening and pondering on the Qu’ran strengthens our faith and clears away any doubts we may have.

In chapter 2 of the Quran, verse 183 instructs believers:

“O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, in order that you may learn taqwa (piety).”

This verse emphasizes that fasting is not just abstaining from food, rather, it serves as a means to cultivate a pathway to piety and deepen our relationship with Allah SWT.

We humbly beseech Allah to instill within us a profound attachment to the Quran, not only during the blessed month of Ramadan but throughout the entire year. Our heartfelt desire is to nurture a genuine friendship with Allah SWT through our devotion, recognized by angels yet remaining anonymous to humanity.

As we take strides towards Allah, we are reminded that He draws nearer to us in return. We express our sincere gratitude to Allah for granting us the opportunity to partake in another Ramadan, for blessing us with the health and strength to observe the fast, and for nurturing a profound spiritual connection within our hearts each passing day.

“O Turner of the hearts, keep our hearts steadfast upon Your religion.”
