Hundreds of the lower mainland’s Muslims were gathered on January 5th and January 6th, 2013 for an unforgettable weekend of khayr. Where were Vancouver’s Muslim youth, parents, and elders? The Generation Muslim 3.0 Conference (GenM 3.0) at Surrey’s Bell Performing Arts Centre!
GenM 3.0, was a two day conference hosted by NYM Ink, an organization committed to providing Muslims with a lifestyle that is not only attractive and tailored to their time and place, but also a way of life whose foundations are firmly based on the teachings of the Quran and the life of our beloved Prophet (PBUH).
GenM 3.0 focused on the issues young Muslims and communities face on a daily basis. Designed by youth, for youth, the conference is an opportunity to pragmatically explore living in a society that is often at odds with religion. One aspect that truly sets GenM 3.0 apart is that entire families attend this conference, not just the youth.
The conference was jam-packed with powerful lectures designed to not only uplift the audience’s imaan, but to inspire them to make a lasting change in their life. Highly respectable and inspirational speakers such as Imam Muhammad Iqbal Al-Nadvi, Sheikh Abdulbary Yahya, Mufti Aasim Rashid, and Dr. Syed Ibn Iqbal captivated the attendees with their knowledge and passion for the deen. The conference included relevant and engaging lectures such as “Deen, Dunya, and Dinars”, “Home Improvement”, and “The Path He has Favoured”, among many others.
Between the lectures, the audience viewed dynamic and motivating videos prepared by the NYM Ink Brothers and NYM Ink Sisters groups. The live entertainment portion included thought provoking poetry by local youth in the community. Not only did the audience leave with a mind full of knowledge, some left with prize giveaways and live auction items!
During breaks, the audience filled their bellies with delicious treats from the snack bar including home-made cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, and other delights while some bought clothing from the bazaar.
By the grace and blessings of Allah (swt), GenM 3.0 caused hundreds of Muslim youth and their families to be present in a gathering where Allah (swt) was remembered all weekend and in sha Allah for a lifetime.[nggallery id=13]
